Toilet training...

What a wonderful topic for a blog... If you aren't someone intimately connected with the subject (like a parent of a child or a grandparent of this child!) you may want to skip this!!!

I am so proud of my daughter. It's been a couple of weeks since she started using the potty sporadically, but we were often having arguments about whether or not she would wear her panties. (Forget the pull-ups and training pants - she acts like they are diapers.) After discussions with a few informed mothers yesterday at the Carrefour, I decided to take away the diaper option all-together. I told her at nap-time that she was going to have a magic sleep and that when she woke up she wasn't going to use diapers any more. It took her a couple of extra hours to go to sleep, but once she woke up from her eventual nap, she informed me that she had indeed had a magic sleep. So she hasn't worn a diaper since! Even, unfortunately for me, during the night (she refused)... we woke her up at 11pm to go, but by morning the bed was definitely wet. Who knows from when - she didn't wake up to let us know. I guess I'll be changing the bed every morning for a while!

This morning she went to the halte-garderie (drop-in daycare) as usual for Wednesdays. I got a couple of different stories: she went 5 times - or 7 times on the big toilet. (During a three-hour period!) One accident, which was apparently not her fault. They couldn't get her there fast enough! And since we got home she wants to go on the big toilet. She just had her first bowel movement on the big toilet!! The milestones of child-rearing...

I guess it's true that if you wait long enough they pretty much toilet train themselves. I'm just hoping that the removal of bottle and soother on her third birthday goes as well.
